We're greener than green

R1 believe a green approach to Direct Marketing requires efficient and highly targeted thinking. We practice what we preach; not only within our data solutions, but throughout day-to-day operations at the home of R1, The Old Dairy. Our very own ‘Green Team’ is represented at board level and has become R1’s guiding light (using an energy efficient bulb of course).

Why have a Green Team? - Anna takes the hot seat to explain:

Why leave your environmental conscience at the door just because you're at work? The volunteers who formed the Green Team felt it was important R1 took responsibility for being as green as possible within a business framework.

Has it changed the way R1 operate?

We've heightened people's awareness of green issues within the work environment, making them conscious of recycling and energy saving. Our achievements so far include:

  • Conducting a company-wide energy survey to establish level of awareness and interest - 75% of staff responded
  • A green audit of The Old Dairy and implementation of subsequent recommendations where feasible
  • A green initiatives session as part of the new staff induction process
  • Issuing a weekly staff email bulletin of Green Tips
  • Re-cycling bins for glass, tin, plastic and paper
  • Installed a bike rack to encourage cycling to work
  • Office stationery now obtained from a sustainable source
  • Fair Trade tea and eco friendly cleaning products introduced to our office kitchen
  • Energy efficient light bulbs are now being rolled out across the company

What are the long-term goals?

Continue raising awareness of green issues across the company and prepare Response One for any official legislation that may be implemented. Businesses will increasingly have to meet the challenges of better environmental performance.
